Enea Bastianini a signé le meilleur temps de la deuxième journée du test de Sepang en 1’57.134, le tour le plus rapide jamais réalisé sur le circuit malaisien. Les cinq constructeurs MotoGP sont passés sous les 1’58, une première ici, alors que les nouveautés aérodynamiques continuent à se dévoiler en piste.
Verra-t-on cette semaine le premier chrono en 1’56 à Sepang ? Le peloton MotoGP s’en est dangereusement rapproché ce mercredi, lors du deuxième des trois jours de test de pré-saison 2024. Longtemps auteur du meilleur temps en 1’57.273, Jorge Martin a été délogé de la première place dans la dernière heure par Enea Bastianini, vainqueur du Grand Prix de Malaisie en novembre dernier. Le pilote Ducati est descendu en 1’57.134. C’est 0,357 s plus vite que le record officiel, détenu par Francesco Bagnaia en 1’57.491 (pole position en 2023). Bagnaia qui a d’ailleurs lui-même fait mieux aujourd’hui en 1’57.469, complétant le top-5.
Le double-champion du monde MotoGP a devant lui la KTM de Brad Binder et l’Aprilia d’Aleix Espargaro, ce qui fait trois marques différentes dans le top-5. Fabio di Giannantonio est sixième et semble confirmer sa bonne fin de saison 2023, suivi de près par Alex Marquez au septième rang. Le rookie Pedro Acosta fait sensation en se hissant huitième en 1’57.726, un chrono tonitruant pour un débutant. Certes, il en est à son cinquième jour de roulage à Sepang. Il n’empêche…
Avec Joan Mir et Honda en 1’57.872, ainsi que Fabio Quartararo et Yamaha en 1’57.888, les cinq constructeurs sont sous la barre des 1’58, une première à Sepang où les Ducatistes étaient jusqu’à présent les seuls à avoir tourné en 1’57. Marc Marquez n’y est pas encore passé mais a été le pilote le plus produtif du jour au guidon de sa Ducati, avec 72 tours effectués. À titre de comparaison, le deuxième à ce registre est Maverick Viñales avec 62 tours.
Parmi les nouveautés essayées aujourd’hui se trouvent de nombreux éléments aérodynamiques. Il s’agit de la partie sur laquelle les marques travaillent le plus, mais aussi celle qui est la plus visible à nos yeux. Chez Ducati, le moteur 2024 semble convaincre les pilotes, tandis que les progrès réalisés par Yamaha dans ce domaine se confirment… en partie. Fabio Quartararo estime en effet que le potentiel est là, mais que l’arrivée de la puissance est encore trop agressive. Et que comme l’an dernier, il lui faut trouver des solutions pour les tours qualificatifs.
